- I have just come into possession of a PET 4016 "fat 40" machine and a
- MSD SD-2 dual disk drive. Regarding the latter: What a quality product!
- Well-made with solid looking drives inside. Not this incredible junk that
- all of Commodore's later 8-bit disk drives were.
-
- Way cool. I can run the programs I still have on 4040-format disks again
- for the first time in almost 11 years. "BLASTO" is still a blast! Now
- if only I could get to all the stuff on my box full of 8050 disks, but
- nobody in my area appears to own such a drive.
-
- The computer has the graphics keyboard, that is the one where the numbers
- are on the nueric keypad only, and all the BASIC programming symbols can
- be accessed without shift. Inside is an 8032 board with half the RAM
- sockets empty and some other chips not installed.
-
- I have (700km away in my parents' attic) an 8032 board. However real 8032s
- have the "business" keyboard (or whatever it's called, the one with a real
- typewriter layout) so I suspect just putting this board in won't work.
-
- There was once an upgrade kit that allowed conversion of a "fat 40" into
- an 8032 without changing the keyboard. I presume a custom ROM image was
- involved. The upshot of all this is, does anyone have such a machine and
- could that person supply me a dump of the appropriate ROM? Or even just
- get in touch with me... I could mail a floppy with a program that will dump
- all the ROMs and self-addressed stamped envelope to return it in.
-
- Thanks in advance. Now if only I knew what became of the copy of the best
- Commodore book in all history ("Programming the PET/CBM" by R.C. West) that
- my high school had. Probably in a landfill somewhere.
